Smart has introduced a new entry-level trim for its Fortwo city car and Forfour supermini, named Pure.
This means the starting price for the Fortwo coupé has been dropped to £9,995 and £10,490 for the Forfour.
Both models in the Pure trim level come powered by a single-litre petrol engine, pumping out 70bhp, linked to a five-speed manual gearbox.
Speed may be capped at 94mph but performance isn’t the focus here. Instead, the target market is more likely to be concerned by the 97g/km CO2 emissions and 67.3mpg combined fuel economy.
Despite being the base model, the interior is hardly primitive and comes with more than enough kit.
Riding on 15-inch wheels, Pure models come as standard with electric windows, remote locking, an AM/FM CD stereo, electronically adjustable and heated door mirrors, height-adjustable steering wheel and driver’s seat, black tridion cell and grille, black fabric upholstery and halogen headlamps with LED daytime running lamps.
For an extra £575, buyers can add automatic climate control and both the Fortwo and Forfour are also available in a choice of nine body colours.
Stephen Halsey, brand manager at Fuel Card Services, adds: “Smart has a proven reputation for delivering fresh and innovative city cars and we’re sure this new base trim will be a hit.”
