New VW Arteon coming September

Volkswagen’s new luxurious fastback can be yours from September when it goes on sale priced from £34,305.

The five-seat five-door Arteon is more than a pumped-up Passat; it is described as an avant-garde gran turismo with svelte fastback styling, combining sports car detailing with luxury motoring, all wrapped up in a muscular yet elegant design.

Compared to the Passat, the Arteon will provide more space, more premium functionality and greater levels of autonomy than any VW before it.

Luggage space is said to be cavernous, opening up from its 563-litre compartment to 1,557 litres with the rear seats folded down. Meanwhile, a wheelbase in excess of 2.8 metres allows best-in-class legroom of 1,016mm.

The car will debut a number of newly enhanced assistance systems, namely the revised Adaptive Cruise Control, which uses GPS-based road data to ‘see’ speed limits and adjust the car’s speed accordingly.

As with any flagship saloon, the Arteon is laced with tech too, such as the 12.3-inch active info display, the latest Discover Navigation system with eight-inch colour touchscreen, an eight-speaker sound system, Bluetooth audio and telephone connectivity, as well as the Volkswagen Media Control, which allows remote control of the infotainment system via compatible smartphone or tablet device.

Under the bonnet, you’ll find either a 276bhp two-litre petrol or one of two diesel engines boasting 148bhp or 236bhp, the latter of which can sprint from 0-62mph in 5.4 seconds. More frugal drivers will opt for the weaker diesel, which can deliver 62.8mpg combined.

A spokesperson for Volkswagen said: “This new flagship model represents a significant step forward in design, technology and, indeed, aspiration and we are confident that the Arteon will more than meet the high expectations of our customers.

“With a selection of engines available to order now and more engine options on the way, we are also looking forward to seeing the Arteon make inroads into the important fleet sector in due course.”

Molly Benton, brand manager at Fuel Card Services, added: “A new VW is always an exciting prospect and we look forward to see the Arteon out on the road soon.”
