It was a strong start for DVF Racing as the Porsche Carrera Cup GB season began at Brands Hatch. Despite tricky conditions with a wet race one, damp race two, and incidents throughout the field, the DVF drivers kept cool heads to bring home trophies and points.
Cypriot Tio Ellinas opened his account with the team in the Pall-Ex Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car by securing two second-place finishes.
Ellinas showed why he was awarded a Formula 1 test drive during his single-seater days as he made a number of impressive moves, including two dives into Paddock Hill Bend in the rain and a bold pass around the outside of Graham Hill Bend.
In race one he reeled in race leader Dino Zamparelli but ran out of time to challenge as the clock counted down, finishing just 3.6s behind at the flag. He was running a strong second again in race two, but the event was red flagged to an early conclusion after a number of incidents as the rain began to fall.
Mark Jenkins, Team Manager, Slidesports Engineering commented, “I am very happy. We missed the sweet spot for Tio slightly in qualifying, but we learned and switched it on for him in race one and he did a good job. Race two the conditions were mixed, but he read the conditions and did well.”
The DVF Racing team will be in action again as the Porsche Carrera Cup GB season continues at Donington Park on 26-29 April, with race two of the weekend live on ITV4 at 13:35.
