Road safety charity Brake has announced the creation of a new programme of fleet safety training for UK firms.
Being delivered in partnership with vehicle leasing and fleet management company Arval, the new programme will focus on reinforcing the key tenets of road safety for all who participate.
It will offer access to Brake's toolkit of Pledge resources – an online portal chock-full of useful advice and guides on how staff can work to make fleets safer – as well as a range of educational videos.
In-person training will also be provided at upcoming events, which will see participants brought together to discuss industry best practice and to learn about the six Ss:
- Slow – driving within speed limits
- Sober – steering clear of alcohol and drugs (both prescription and otherwise)
- Sharp – being well rested when behind the wheel
- Silent – avoiding distraction when possible
- Secure – always wearing a seatbelt
- Sustainable – only driving when it is absolutely necessary
Each of these key tenets form part of the training to help to deliver safer fleet operators.
Ellie Pearson, professional engagement manager at Brake, commented: "[The training is] incredibly versatile and can be used by organisations with existing road safety programmes as a supplementary resource, or by organisations just beginning their road risk management journey, as the foundation for their programme.
"We're really excited to be working with Arval to offer these interactive training courses, and I'd urge any employer with at-work drivers to attend a course."
Forthcoming events under the Pledge training programme will be held in London (March 22nd), Birmingham (June 8th), Manchester (September 14th) and Swindon (December 6th).
