DVF Racing ready for Italian tilt after Donington Park victory
9th May 2018
DVF Racing travels to Monza after a successful weekend at Donington Park where Tio Ellinas took the first victory for himself, DVF, and Slidesports Engineering. Tio will be further boosted by the return of David Fairbrother at the Italian circuit.
Halifax-based businessman Fairbrother hasn’t raced so far in 2018 but is excited about making his return in the Gen II Porsche 911 GT3 Cup machine. “I’m looking forward to getting back in the car,” he said. “I like Monza, I like the weather, and hopefully we’ll have good results. I’ve been around the circuit a lot in European GT4. The thing is it’s fairly straightforward. It’s very fast, very scary, and an iconic track. I’ve been seeing the Am drivers going around and I fancy my chances to tell you the truth. Everybody at the team has been brilliant, and we’ll continue to go from strength to strength.”
For Cypriot Ellinas Donington was a great success as he proved his championship credentials with pole position and victory in the first of the weekend’s races and he heads to a circuit where he’s had a memorable victory in the past. “Monza is a circuit that I’ve been at twice,” he said. “I’ve won there in GP3 and I was front row the next year, so I want to repeat that in the Carrera Cup. It’s a different car though, so the only advantage is knowing the way around and the racing line.”
Mark Jenkins, Team Manager as Slidesports enjoys the annual European races as he feels it balances out the field. “Monza is really good because the fly-away races are a bit of a leveller,” he said. “You can’t practice there much so the teams have to adapt to the car in the short period of time we have and it’s about the instincts of the driver.”
The drivers will be on track at Monza for two free practice sessions on Friday 11 May with qualifying and race one taking place on Saturday. Race two will be held on Sunday morning, with coverage of both races streamed live on the Carrera Cup website. Links to the racing will be provided on the DVF Racing Twitter and Facebook pages closer to the event.
