Carrera Cup championship leader DVF Racing prepares for second-half surge

After a six-week summer break, DVF Racing with Slidesports Engineering heads to Snetterton to resume the Porsche Carrera Cup GB season, with Pro driver Tio Ellinas leading the championship standings. Cypriot Ellinas opened up a nine-point advantage after the last round at Oulton Park, even with the Carrera Cup’s dropped-score points system, he still leads rival Dino Zamparelli by a point and will be looking to extend that lead this weekend.

In the Am category, both David Fairbrother and Richard Hawken will be hoping for podium finishes. Fairbrother took a win and second place at the Norfolk circuit last year, while Hawken has experience around the circuit in his time racing Super Touring cars.

The 2.97-mile Snetterton circuit provides a mixture of challenges for the drivers, featuring high-speed straights which surround a twisty and technical infield section and an average lap speed of close to 100 mph. With just eight races left of the 16 which makes up the 2018 Porsche Carrera Cup GB season there will be little room for error.

DVF Racing will be on track on Wednesday July 25 for an official Porsche test, before two free practice sessions on Friday July 27. Qualifying will take place on Saturday at 14:30, with both 14-lap races on Sunday July 29 at 09:15 and 15:05 – the latter broadcast live on ITV4 and ITV Hub online.

Tio Ellinas, driver #11

“Hopefully we can extend the lead even more. It was really nice to go into the summer break leading the championship and I’m looking forward to getting back into the car and getting racing again. Snetterton was good for me last year, I finished third with two fastest laps, so I enjoy the track and want to do well there again this year.”

David Fairbrother, driver #9

“It will be nice to go back to Snetterton after the break. I had a great weekend there last year with a win and second place and I will be trying to repeat that sort of performance this time out. Slidesports will give us good cars as usual so we know we will be competitive.”

Mark Jenkins, Team Manager Slidesports Engineering

“I’m looking forward to Snetterton and Tio excels on these high-speed tracks, so it should be good for us. There’s good running to the end of the season now with some exciting circuits, so we need to keep our nose clean. We’re going for the championship, not just race wins.”

DVF Racing tops championship standings after podium success at Oulton Park

DVF Racing made a successful visit to Oulton Park for rounds seven and eight of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB with Slidesports Engineering. Driver Tio Ellinas scored two podium finishes to open up a six-point lead in the championship standings as the first half of the season came to a close.

Tio fell back from his third-place starting spot in race one but passed rival Dino Zamparelli to regain the position with six laps left to run and followed up with a similar result in race two to move to the lead of the championship.

In Pro-Am, David Fairbrother continued to impress on his Carrera Cup return, making up four spots from his starting position to finish fourth in race one, but unfortunately retired with damage in race two.

The team will now enjoy a six-week summer break before getting set for rounds nine and ten at Snetterton in Norfolk on July 27-29. Both races that weekend will take place on Sunday, with the latter live on ITV4 and ITV Hub online.

Tio Ellinas, driver #11

“We qualified third for race one. It wasn’t a bad race because we passed Dino. I feel sorry for him not finishing, but this happens, and everyone has their ups and downs in the championship, so we took the opportunity to outscore him. In race two we dropped off a bit at the start and I had to concentrate to do the best job possible. It was a good weekend with two thirds and scoring important points, especially with what happened to Dino. It’s the mid-point of the championship now and hopefully we can extend the lead further at Snetterton.”

David Fairbrother, driver #9

“It was a bit of an up-and-down weekend really. The pace is in the car as you can see Tio is doing well in Pro and I was able to put in some good lap times during the race, but we have to tie it all together. The performance was good in race one, the guys at Slidesports did a great job with the car, and we weren’t far away from getting back on the podium – I’m sure I’ll get there soon. It didn’t happen for us in race two but that’s the way it goes. We’ll be fit and ready to go at Snetterton.”

Mark Jenkins, Team Manager Slidesports Engineering

“We’re now at the halfway point of the season and I would take two third places over a risky win any day. We’re leading the championship, Tio’s performances are good, and I think there’s more to come. We’re looking forward to a bit of a rest to regroup. David at one part of the race was doing some very good times – quick enough to be second in Pro-Am – so I think he’s overdue a better finish. It’s all positive for us.”
